Hillary Clinton to Propose Tighter Gun Regulations on Monday

US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is set to announce on Monday her plans to enact tighter regulations on sales at gun shows if she is elected the US president, local media reported.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Clinton is expected to vow to reduce the number of arms dealers at gun shows.

Clinton has announced her willingness to launch a "national movement" against the US National Rifle Association (NRA), which protects the right of citizens to keep and carry firearms, after a shootout at a college in the state of Oregon last week, which left at least 9 people dead and several other injured.

Following the Oregon killings, President Barack Obama called on the Republican-controlled Congress to change the country’s gun laws, and urged Americans to pay more attention to presidential candidates’ position on gun control.

Obama and US Vice President Joe Biden have repeatedly called for stricter gun legislation following numerous mass shooting incidents around the country.

The NRA has argued there are laws that regulate the purchase of firearms, and further regulation may infringe on the Americans’ rights to obtain and use firearms stipulated by the US Constitution.
