During the meeting, the two leaders shared some light-hearted moments.
A reporter told Zelenskiy he looks "fabulous" and "good" in his dark suit.
Trump patted the Ukrainian president's back, adding "I said the same thing."
What Zelenskiy would wear to the White House Monday became a focus of speculation after reports that U.S. officials requested a suit.
In his February meeting with Trump, Zelenskiy was chided by the same reporter for not wearing a suit to the White House.
Zelenskiy joked Monday that the reporter seemed to be wearing the same suit as last time.
The two leaders and the room burst into laughter.
Then Zelenskiy told reporters he was open to holding elections, but it would require work in parliament and extra security to hold democratic, open and legal elections.
Trump countered: "So you're saying that during the war you can't have elections, so let me just say that three and a half years from now -- you mean if we happen to be in a war with somebody, no more elections?"
Zelenskiy laughed, quickly adding, "No, no."
