Tokayev: Situation with the Caspian Sea is approaching an ecological catastrophe

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has warned that the situation in the Caspian Sea is "approaching an ecological catastrophe."

Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Tokayev highlighted the "deplorable" state of the sea, noting the significant decrease in its water level.

To address this critical issue, he proposed establishing a Center for the Analysis of Water Problems in Astana, to be placed under the umbrella of the SCO. Tokayev believes that this matter should be a top priority for long-term discussions within the organization.
