WB uses almost 90% of funds for education development in Azerbaijan
The World Bank (WB) has used 89 percent of the funds allocated for the second education development project in Azerbaijan.
The total project cost is $ 45.4 million.

According to the data published on the WB website, some 124,400 teachers participated in the project in late September.

The project aims to expand the effectiveness of teaching at the secondary schools, as well as improve the efficiency of spending on education.

In general, the project consists of six components: support for the implementation of a reform of a comprehensive program and other reforms ($ 16.5 million), modernization of teacher training ($ 18 million), the use of the student assessment to improve the quality of education ($ 2.8 million), the assistance in preparation for school ($0.2 million), strengthening of development policy and education management ($ 3.5 million), coordination, monitoring and evaluation of the project ($ 3.6 million).

Some 30 percent of secondary school teachers should use active learning methods by late 2015. This is among the objectives of the project.

As of late 2010, more than ten percent of teachers use active learning methods, 64 percent - used mixed learning methods and 26 percent – traditional methods.

WB assesses progress in achieving the objectives of the project as moderately satisfactory. At the same time, the general progress in the project implementation is estimated as satisfactory.

The project is expected to end March 31, 2016.

Azerbaijan joined the WB in 1992.
