Armenia second in world charts for skimming crimes
Bulgaria is first worldwide when it comes to skimming crimes in 2013, according to Bloomberg data citing a report by Verizon Communication, a US telecommunications company.

The highest number of perpetrators of such crimes came from Bulgaria followed by Armenia, Romania, Brazil and the US.

The statistics refer to 130 incidents last year. They occurred mostly at ATMs at gas stations.

The techniques used circumvent PIN codes. PIN codes that have not been changed for a long time are especially vulnerable.

These crimes don`t require special skills. The cyber thieves install a fake card reading device at their ATM of choice. "This is the Holy Grail of hackers because they have direct access to cash," says Brian Sartin, leader of the cyber crimes investigation team.

Last month 14 Bulgarians were arrested in a joint operation of the FBI and our NSA. They were charged with draining accounts via duplicate cards.
