According to media reports, first in three years high-level tripartite summit between Japan, South Korea and China began in Seoul.
The first in three years high-level tripartite summit between Japan, South Korea and China began on Sunday in Seoul, local media reported.

It is attended by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, South Korean President Park Geun-hye and Chinese Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang, according to the Japanese NHK broadcaster.

The main issues on the agenda are expected to be the economic and trade cooperation and strengthening of multilateral cooperation in various fields, according to the broadcaster.

Prior to the summit, Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida held bilateral meetings with foreign minister of South Korea Yong Xie Bin and Chinese top diplomat Wang Yi. During the meeting, the sides emphasized the high importance of further cooperation, and discussed prospect of closer ties between the countries.

In recent years, Japan’s relations with South Korea, which was under Tokyo’s colonial rule between 1910 and 1945, have been icy over territorial disputes and controversies in interpretations of wartime history.

On Monday, a meeting between Abe and Park is scheduled. It is expected to be their first direct dialogue since taking office.

On Saturday, a bilateral meeting with South Korean President and China`s Premier of the State Council was held.

The China–Japan–South Korea trilateral summit was initially an annual meeting. The latest summit was held in Chinese capital of Beijing in May 2012.

The sides restarted their trilateral foreign ministers’ meeting in spring, raising hopes for a possible summit among their leaders. In June, the three states consciously considered holding the summit, between September and November either in Seoul, Busan or on Jeju Island in South Korea.
