Iran summons Azeri ambassador
Iran`s Foreign Ministry has summoned Javanshir Akhundov.
Iran`s Foreign Ministry has summoned the Azeri envoy to Tehran in protest to the recent forum of South Azerbaijan National Liberation Movement in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

In a Sunday meeting with Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Tehran Javanshir Akhundov, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Oceania Seyyed Abbas Araqchi expressed Tehran`s strong objection over the Azeri government`s failure to stop the event.

“Although the Islamic Republic of Iran has always tried to see relations between the two nations grow deeper...such actions can seriously damage the development of bilateral ties,” he stated.

Araqchi also slammed the expression of intimidating and politically-motivated anti-Iran comments as well as the distribution of fabricated articles and offensive caricatures in the latest South Azerbaijan National Liberation Movement meeting as “provocative,” stressing that such moves only serve the interests of Israeli circles.

“The move violates the agreement on friendly relations between the two countries, and is completely unacceptable,” the Iranian diplomat said.

The Azeri ambassador expressed regret over the incident and said Tehran`s message would be conveyed to Baku as soon as possible and that a response would be relayed back to the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
