US Launches Airstrike in Syria Against `Jihadi John`

US Launches Airstrike in Syria Against `Jihadi John`

The US targeted the ISIL headquarters in Raqqa seeking to eliminate notorious executioner "Jihadi John".

The US military carried out an airstrike in Syria’s Raqqa, the Islamic State jihadist group’s headquarters, targeting one of the group’s most notorious members known as "Jihadi John," US Department of Defense spokesman Peter Cook said in a statement.

"US forces conducted an airstrike in Raqqa, Syria, on Nov. 12, 2015 targeting Mohamed Emwazi, also known as `Jihadi John,` the statement published Thursday read.

According to Cook, Washington was assessing the results of the airstrike and it was not yet clear if the extremist had been successfully eliminated.
