Armenia says friendly relations with Iran of `great importance`
President Serzh Sargsyan received on Monday Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, who is in Yerevan to attend the Armenian leader`s inauguration scheduled for today.
During the meeting President Sargsyan, who is to be sworn in for a second five-year term on April 9, said that Armenia highly appreciates and attaches great importance to friendly relations with neighboring Iran.

According to the press service of the Armenian president, the sides discussed issues of bilateral economic cooperation, expressed satisfaction with the growth pace of trade between the two countries, and stressed the importance of joint energy and transport projects. Sargsyan and Salehi also discussed questions related to timely operation of the third high-voltage power line between Armenia and Iran, as well as completion of hydroelectric power plant on the border of the Arax River.

On behalf of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian government and the people of Iran Salehi passed the best wishes to President Sargsyan. In his turn, President Sargsyan wished success to the Iranian people in the forthcoming presidential elections in that country. The Armenian president and the Iranian foreign minister also exchanged views on regional developments.
