Armenia residents had to pay more for electricity in 2015
In December 2015, Armenian citizens generally had to pay a higher price for electricity, the statement by Armenia`s National Statistical Service says.
In December 2015, the growth of electricity tariffs amounted to 10.4 percent. This may be explained by the fact that since 1 August 2015, electricity has been subsidized in the amount of its price hike, i.e. 6.93 AMD, but only up to 250 kWh.

In case of greater usage, payment should be made by the new tariff. In fact, not the exceeding part, but the whole amount should be paid. Considering the fact that in winter months the electricity is used for heating, more families all over the republic crossed the line, being left without subsidy for a month.

Considering the fact that electricity occupies 6.08 percent of Armenia`s consumer goods basket (according to the data of Armenia`s National Statistical Service), this impacted the general price index by 0.7 percentage points.

Note, in 2016 several anti-government protests held in Armenia against electricity price hike. Dozens arrested and been subjected to police violence.
