US VP Biden arrives in Istanbul for official visit
Biden is expected to meet with Turkish President Erdogan and PM Davutoglu during his visit
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden has arrived in Turkey for a two-day official visit after attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Biden’s plane landed at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul at around 9.30 p.m. local time.

Accompanied by his wife Jill, Biden was welcomed by U.S. Ambassador to Turkey John Bass, U.S. Consul General in Istanbul Charles F. Hunter and Turkish Foreign Ministry officials.

The U.S. vice president is expected to meet with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu during his stay in Istanbul.

The vice president`s visit takes place as the U.S. reportedly presses Turkey to do more in the war against Daesh militants and to strengthen its border with Syria.

On his previous official visit to Turkey in late 2014, Biden met with Davutoglu and Erdogan on the sidelines of the sixth Atlantic Council Energy and Economic Summit.
