UEFA Executive Committee unanimously backs Gianni Infantino for FIFA presidency
The UEFA Executive Committee approved the use of goal-line technology for the final tournament of UEFA EURO 2016 in France, as well as for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League.
The UEFA Executive Committee yesterday held its first meeting of the year at the House of European Football in Nyon and unanimously decided to back the candidature of Gianni Infantino in the FIFA presidential elections (see media release 005).

The UEFA Executive Committee decided there will be no UEFA presidential election scheduled until the sports justice appeal bodies, including potentially the Court of Arbitration for Sport, have taken a decision regarding Michel Platini’s suspension (see media release 004).

The use of goal-line technology was approved for the final tournament of UEFA EURO 2016 in France, as well as for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League from the play-offs onwards. The system will work alongside additional assistant referees who will continue to monitor all activity in and around the penalty area. The goal-line technology system supplier will be announced in due course.

The UEFA Executive Committee also decided to look into the feasibility of implement goal-line technology in the UEFA Europa League, as from the group stage onwards, starting in the 2017/18 season.

In amendment was introduced to article 21.05 of the UEFA European Football Championship 2014-16. This will allow qualified teams to play two friendly matches against other participating teams, provided that they are not in the same final tournament group, as opposed to the one friendly match initially foreseen in the regulations.
