Chairman of Turkey’s Grand National Assembly, Ismail Kahraman, addressing the new commission members on Feb. 4, said “the country has long been in need of a new democratic constitution.”
He said the current constitution doesn’t allow making any changes in a number of laws.
Earlier, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said the current constitution is the main obstacle to Turkey’s development.
He noted that over the past 14 years, the government has held many reforms for the country’s development, but the constitution in force doesn’t meet the interests of modern Turkey and its people.
