Fifty-eight per cent could not go more than 24 hours without checking their phone. But only 28 per cent could not last more than a day without speaking to their other half.
When they wake in the morning, 53 per cent said they check their mobile before talking to their partner.
Forty-two per cent would rather forget their anniversary than lose their smartphone. Two thousand people in a relationship were quizzed for Nationwide Building Society.
Nationwide’s Dan King said: “It shows how ingrained phones have become in our culture.”
