Yerevan bewildered over Belarus position on Karabakh conflict

“During the meeting, Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharian conveyed to the ambassador Armenia’s deep bewilderment in connection with a number of provisions, reflected in an April 2 statement issued by the ministry of foreign affairs of the Republic of Belarus in connection with the events around Nagorno-Karabakh," the Armenian ministry of foreign affairs said.

Nazaruk was said that the statement in question does not correspond to the spirit of the Armenian-Belarusian relations and runs counter to the commitments made by the parties in the framework of the CSTO and other multilateral structures, that it is detrimental to the negotiation process, encouraging the use of force in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Belarusian statement, in particular, says that Minsk supports a peaceful resolution of the conflict in accordance with the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, first of all, on the basis of respect of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders, as well as relevant resolutions the UN Security Council and OSCE decisions.
