Iran releases home-made floating dock into Caspian Sea
A home-made floating dock, with the capacity of launching 2000-ton vessels, was delivered to the Iranian Navy in Caspian Sea on April 14.
The dock which has been manufactured by Iran`s defense ministry, was handed over to the navy in northern port of Anzali during a ceremony with participation of Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan, the state-run IRINN TV reported.

The floating dock can be applied for launching different types of vessels less than 2000 tons in weight, Dehghan said at the event.

Having a mobile maintenance and overhaul infrastructure in Caspian Sea and preparing technical support for navy as well as oil and gas projects are among the purposes of launching the dock, he added.

Floating docks are used for the construction, maintenance, and repair of ships, boats, and other water crafts.

Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Iran has manufactured its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles, radars, boats, submarines and fighter planes since 1992. Iran also unveiled its first domestically-manufactured long-range Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in 2010.
