AzVision.az reports with reference to the Haberler.com that Pope Francis told this to journalists on board en route from Turkey to Italy.
"I personally, regardless of how far my hand outstretched, always waiting for a response from the interlocutor," the Pope said, noting that he appreciates the letter of Erdogan to the descendants of Armenians who migrated from the Ottoman Empire.
The head of the Roman Catholic Church drew attention to the fact of closing the border between Turkey and Armenia.
"I sincerely want this border to be opened. That would be fine. I know that in this region there are problems that do not facilitate the process of opening the borders, but I pray for the achievement of harmony between peoples."
"We need to improve the situation. I hope that 2015 will be a period of clearing the way for small gestures and steps towards rapprochement," the Pope said.
