TAP certified as Independent Transmission Operator
The national regulatory authorities of Albania (ERE), Greece (RAE) and Italy (AEEGSI) certified Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) AG on the basis of the independent transmission operator (ITO) model, part of the European Union`s Third Energy Package, according to the official website of TAP.
The final decision on the certification of TAP takes in consideration the opinions issued by the European Commission and the Energy Community Secretariat earlier in 2016.

Ian Bradshaw, Managing Director at TAP, said: “I am very pleased with the overall progress of the TAP project. In addition to awarding our main strategic contracts and the arrival of the first line pipes in Albania, the ITO certification is another important milestone, enabling us to continue the project execution as planned. I would like to thank the three National Regulatory Authorities, the European Commission and the Energy Community Secretariat for their excellent cooperation throughout this process.”

In 2013, TAP secured an exemption from certain provisions of the EU Gas Directive (2009/73/EC), including an exemption for ownership unbundling for a period of 25 years.
