President Aliyev: Azerbaijan and Latvia should consider investment projects in economic sphere
`Latvian-Azerbaijani relations are at a high level`.
Negotiations ongoing today and exchange of views once again show that the Latvian-Azerbaijani relations are at a high level, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the joint press conference with the President of Latvia Andris Berzins in Baku on Wednesday.

"There is a very active political dialogue between us, and there are no problems at the political level. We actively cooperate and support each other in international organizations. Of course, we seek to ensure relations in all areas to correspond to the level of our political relations," Azerbaijani President said.

He further spoke on the economic field, noting in particular, that despite great progress in economic sphere, Azerbaijan cannot be yet satisfied with the trade turnover.

"I believe that we should achieve growth of trade turnover with joint efforts, as I think there are opportunities for that," Ilham Aliyev noted. "I believe that we should consider the investment projects in the economic sphere. There are preliminary proposals already in existence."
Azerbaijani President added that Azerbaijan has already started to invest in foreign markets, and it has already given excellent results.
"Work on specific projects should be conducted, so that we could increase the trade turnover," Ilham Aliyev said.
The President said that at the same time, additional opportunities can be created for expansion of Latvian companies` activities in Azerbaijan, and these opportunities can be presented within the business forum framework.

Ilham Aliyev also noted that in recent years, Azerbaijan has seen great development, and a lot of projects are being implemented.
"Of course, we would like Latvian companies to be more actively involved in Azerbaijan as contractors," President Aliyev said.
The sides also touched on energy issues. President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan has become a partner country for the European Union in terms of energy security, and there are documents proving it.
"Rich oil and gas resources of Azerbaijan are supplied to world markets through different routes. I believe that in the coming years, cooperation with the European Union in this sphere could enter a new level. Simultaneously, there are good opportunities to address energy issues also in the bilateral format," Azerbaijani President said.

He also noted that the sides exchanged views on the creation of transport infrastructure, and cooperation in the field of transport.
"As a result of implementation of these projects, the issues of regional cooperation can be resolved in a broad sense. Links between the Caspian, Black and Baltic Seas largely depend on the transport infrastructure. For its part, Azerbaijan seeks to resolve these issues. Major transport projects implemented by our initiative bring benefits," Ilham Aliyev said.

The President noted that the two sides exchanged views on foreign policy, and there were no disagreements on the topic.
Speaking of humanitarian sphere, Azerbaijani President said there is a need for cooperation to address the issues of education and health.

He noted that in general, "a broad spectrum of questions was discussed today [April 24] both at the one-on-one meeting and at the meeting with delegations."

"Mr. President, I believe that your visit will be successful, as it is your first one to Azerbaijan. I`ve been to Latvia more than once. I am sure that this visit will yield good results, and you will come back to your country with good impression," President Ilham Aliyev said.
