Romanian hacker claiming to have broken into Clinton

Romanian hacker Guccifer who claims to have breached Hillary Clinton’s e-mail server says he spoke with an agent from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) while being extradited to the United States.

"They came after me, a guy from the FBI, from the [US] State Department," the hacker, whose real name is Marcel Leher Lazar told Fox News in a phone interview released on Friday, adding that the conversation with the FBI agent was recorded and lasted one hour and twenty minutes.

Earlier this week, Lazar told Fox News that it was "easy" for him to hack US former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s personal e-mail server.

In response to the hacker’s claims, the Clinton presidential campaign issued a statement to Fox News on Wednesday, saying that Lazar could not have breached the server in early 2013, contrary to his claims.

Clinton has come under intense scrutiny for using a personal server and e-mail account for official purposes during her tenure as secretary of state from 2009 to 2013.

The investigation into the matter has found that Clinton shared more than 100 emails about highly classified US government programs and other sensitive information via her unsecured communications contrary to established rules.

Lazar was extradited from Romania to Virginia, United States, in April, after penetrating computers used by family members of two former US presidents, a former Cabinet secretary and a former member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to the US Department of Justice.

The hacker is currently being held in prison in Alexandria, Virginia. According to Fox News, Lazar was supposed to meet this week with the FBI, the US attorney and the defendant’s court-appointed lawyer at the detention center this week.
