FIDE: Baku to open new page in chess tournaments
Baku will open a new page in the history of chess tournaments by organizing the best Chess Olympiad ever, said Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, president of the World Chess Federation (FIDE).

Ilyumzhinov made the remarks at a meeting with Azerbaijan`s first deputy prime minister, head of the Baku Chess Olympiad Organizing Committee, Yagub Eyyubov on May 27, the Organizing Committee told Trend May 27.

The meeting was held with participation of Azerbaijan`s Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov, President of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation Elman Rustamov, director of the Baku Chess Olympiad Organizing Committee, vice-president of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation Mahir Mammadov, and chief arbiter of the Baku Chess Olympiad Faig Hasanov.

Ilyumzhinov expressed satisfaction with the preparation for the 42nd World Chess Olympiad, to be held in Baku Sept. 1-14.

During the meeting, it was noted that the preparatory work for the Olympiad has entered the decisive stage.

Around 2,500 chess players, coaches and officials from nearly 180 countries are expected to take part in the Baku Chess Olympiad.
