At Least 11 Killed, 36 Wounded in Istanbul Blast.

Seven police officers and four civilians lost their lives in an early morning explosion in Istanbul`s Beyazit area Tuesday, Vasip Sahin, the city`s governor, has confirmed.



The blast in the Beyazit Vezneciler district on the city`s European side damaged nearby shops and vehicles, according to an Anadolu Agency reporter at the scene.





A number of gunshots were reportedly heard after the blast.

According to conflicting reports coming from the scene, up to 18 people were wounded in the attack, including eight policemen, and numerous ambulances and firefighter crews have been dispatched to the scene.

Five people have been injured as a result of the explosion in Turkey`s Istanbul city, the Haber7 newspaper reported June 7.

Between five and eight people sustained injuries, and numerous ambulances and firefighter crews have been dispatched to the scene, Turkish media said. Police cordoned off the area.



NTV reported that gunfire could be heard at the scene. One of the wounded policemen is in a serious condition.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast.

According to the Vatan newspaper, the cause of the explosion was a car bomb.

The blast took place during the morning rush hour near Istanbul`s Bayezit Square district which is a famous tourist attraction.
