Azerbaijani president receives Speaker of Serbian National Assembly
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic Dec. 11.

Noting that Azerbaijan and Serbia enjoyed friendly relations, the president expressed his satisfaction with the high-level political ties between the two countries, and said this created a good foundation for the expansion of cooperation in the field of economy.

Gojkovic said her country was determined to expand economic cooperation, and was interested in Azerbaijan`s making investment in Serbian economy.

She noted that the two countries were successfully cooperating in international organizations.

Gojkovic said she supported the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity, and thanked for Azerbaijan`s position on Kosovo.

She described the erection of monuments to Azerbaijan`s national leader Heydar Aliyev and prominent composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli in Serbia as well as the opening of a monument to the great son of the Serbian people Nikola Tesla in Baku as a good sign of friendly ties between the two countries.

On behalf of the people of Serbia and on her own behalf, she thanked President Aliyev for the overhaul of a mosque and a church in Serbia and for Azerbaijan`s being one of the first countries to provide assistance to Serbia during the recent floods.

Hailing Serbian stance on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Aliyev reiterated that Azerbaijan supports Serbian position on Kosovo.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on cooperation between the two countries in transport, investment making, energy and other areas.
