Iran to launch Baku-Ardabil bus service
A bus service will be launched between Iran’s northwestern Ardabil city and Baku for the first time, head of the Ardabil’s provincial department of Transport and Terminals, Abdolhossein Ali Akbari said.

He said that the company’s registration is finalized and the service will start in the new future, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported Dec.14.

He called launching the service a necessity saying every year over 600,000 passengers visit Ardabil from Azerbaijan Republic and Iranian provinces.

Earlier Iranian media outlets quoted Deputy Chairman of the Ardabil province office of the Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Gadir Taghizadeh as saying a bus will operate between Ardabil and Baku in the new future.

"The buses will leave from Ardabil on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, and from Baku - on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays," he added.

"Some 49.4 percent of Azerbaijani citizens traveling to Iran go for treatment, 34.5 percent - for tourism, 9.7 percent - for trade, 4.7 percent - to visit relatives," he added.

There is no information about the exact date of initiating the bus service between the cities.
