Armenian media distorts statement of Uruguayan Vice-President, President of Senate
Danilo Astori said the statement "Uruguay is working toward recognizing the independence of Nagorno Karabakh" issued on behalf of him by the Armenian media about is untrue
Under the instruction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission in Uruguay has appealed to Uruguay`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Acting Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hikmet Hajiyev told that Armenian media outlets, especially “azbarez.com” website disseminated reports that at a press conference on December 8 with the Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly Galust Sahakyan, asked whether Uruguay, recognizing the Armenian genocide, may become the first country to recognize the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Uruguay’s Vice-Presdient Danilo Astori said “My country is working on it”.

“Under the instruction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Azerbaijan’s diplomatic mission in Uruguay has appealed to Uruguay`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate the matter.

Uruguay`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the matter was clarified by Danilo Astori, Vice-President, President of the Senate of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay.

Danilo Astori said this report is untrue, he didn’t make such statements and Uruguay`s position is to support a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue and negotiations taking into account the interests of the conflicting parties,” said Hajiyev.
