US and Cuba restore ties - PHOTOS

US and Cuba are normalizing relations and opening a new chapter in them, TASS reported President Barack Obama`s statement.

He admitted that the sanctions against Cuba, which Washington imposed more than 50 years ago, did not bring about the desired impact.

Obama also said he had instructed Secretary of State John Kerry to revise Cuba`s status as a nation, which according to the US Administration`s classification was sponsoring terrorism.

Head of Cuba’s State Council and Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Raul Castro has confirmed resumption of diplomatic relations with the US after an interval of 53 years.
