National Gymnastics Arena in Baku fully ready for FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics
The National Gymnastics Arena in Baku is fully ready to host the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics, Magsud Farzullayev, the arena’s director, told on July 18.
“The hall is fully ready for the competitions as always. Three weeks before the start of the competitions, we begin checking and testing all the systems,” he said.

“Taking into account the hot days, we thoroughly test the air conditioning system and measure the temperature in the hall,” said the arena’s director. “I am confident that it will be comfortable for the audience here.”

Farzullayev noted that as part of the preparations for the World Cup, the National Gymnastics Arena has decided to offer a number of novelties both for the athletes and fans.

“As always, together with Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, the National Gymnastics Arena is trying to do something new,” he said.

“This time, we have decided to add national flavor to the World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics and have decorated the hall with patterns of Karabakh ‘chelebi’ carpet that will surround the main carpet on which the gymnasts will perform.”

“This national pattern will also serve as a background in the awarding ceremony and during the speeches of officials,” added Farzullayev.

“Moreover, we have decided to create new [social network] hashtags for fans. Our fans like to take photos and post them on social networks,” he said.

Farzullayev said a half of the main hall will be used in the World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics, as it was during the World Cup in Trampoline Gymnastics.

“We usually close a half of the hall for the competitions which do not require the use of the whole hall,” he added. “This practice has proven itself, as first of all, this is very comfortable both for the athletes themselves and for the competition.”

“It doesn’t mean that we will not use the other half of the hall. It will be used for gymnasts’ preparations for the performance,” added the arena’s director.

Farzullayev called on Baku residents and guests to come to the competitions and support the Azerbaijani athletes.

FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics will take place in Azerbaijan’s capital on July 22-24, giving a unique opportunity to see the performances of eminent gymnasts from 20 countries two weeks prior to the Rio Olympics.

Thirty-one gymnasts and 12 teams will compete for medals in the all-around on the first two days of competitions. Apparatus finals will be held on the event’s last day.

A magnificent Opening Ceremony, directed by the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team Mariana Vasileva, will be held on July 22, followed by the traditional Gala on July 24, as part of the FIG World Cup Final in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku.
