Turkey orders shutdown of 16 TV stations
Turkey ordered the shutdown of scores of media outlets, including three news agencies, 16 television channels and 45 newspapers, 15 magazines and 29 publishers, the state-run Andalou news agency reported.
The moves represent a further tightening of government control in the country following a failed military coup on July 15.

Turkey has detained more than 13,000 people in the military, judiciary and other institutions in purges since the uprising. Nearly 45,000 government employees have been suspended. At least 246 people were killed and more than 2,000 injured in clashes during the coup.
