“While the self-sufficiency in vegetables, fruits and meat is 80 percent, the major part of raw materials is imported from abroad (sugar – 95 percent, rice – 85 percent, wheat – 44 percent),” she added.
Alizadeh said it will be possible to reduce these figures by developing small-scale farms.
“Small-scale farms should be developed in order to increase interest in local production,” she said. “To this end, we are implementing our project for ‘Improvement of food security through the development of small-scale farms.”
At the same time a law on creating a consulting service in the sphere of agriculture is being worked out in Azerbaijan, according to Alizadeh.
“This law will allow to create services that will render assistance and consult farmers on a number of issues,” she said.
