Germany enhances security measures at Incirlik air base
German Defense Ministry is enhancing security measures to defend German soldiers at Incirlik air base in Turkey.
The move comes after a coup attempt and subsequent intention to “clean” the local army of alleged accomplices of the coup, DW reported.

The reason for the increase of security measures was a statement in Ankara, according to which the military and police of the country cannot sufficiently protect the airspace in the south of the country. From now on, according to the leadership of the German contingent at Incirlik, departures may perform only the aircrafts that can reflect the missile strikes. German army followed the U.S. and Denmark, which have already made a similar decision.

The reasons for Turkey’s statement about not ensuring the safety of the air are not yet clear. Earlier, the Turkish military police patrolled the area around the important military air bases, and tracked “suspicious movements” on the ground in order to prevent possible attacks on military aircraft.
