Austrian Chancellor urges to stop EU accession talks with Turkey
Chancellor of Austria Christian Kern proposed to stop EU accession talks with Turkey, calling the ongoing process “diplomatic fiction”, Deutsche Welle reported.
Kern said democratic standards in Turkey are clearly not sufficient to join the EU. As to economy, Turkey is too far from the European average.

Turkey’s accession is a matter of years if not decades, Austrian official said promising to raise the issue during the meeting of the European Council on September 16.

“We will ask for an alternative concept,” he added.
