Voter turnout increased in Azerbaijan in 2014
Voter turnout has increased in Azerbaijan compared to the previous municipal elections, head of Azerbaijani Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov told reporters on Dec.23.
He made the remarks after taking part in the voting.

He said if the voter turnout as of 10:00 was eight percent in the previous municipal elections, this figure equaled 10 percent in the current elections.

The voter turnout totaled 23-24 percent as of 13:00 (UTC/GMT +4 hours).

CEC head said that the voting process is being held in a normal mode.

“We keep in touch with the participants and follow the election process with CCTV cameras,” Panahov added.

CEC head said that to date, no appeals have been received about the breach of law which can affect the election results.

Panahov added that investigation will be carried out into the online spread video materials about the alleged fraud in the election process.

He said that CEC has received only referential appeals up to now.

Panahov said that media representatives are given opportunity to accompany the ballot boxes that are delivered to addresses of the voters which are not able to come to the polling stations for health reasons. These ballot boxes will be opened firstly when counting the votes.

CEC head added that on the eve of the elections, some applicants withdrew their candidacies.
