Ruling party confirms validity of municipal elections in Azerbaijan
The municipal elections in Azerbaijan were confirmed valid, Deputy Chairman - Executive Secretary of New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov said at a press conference on Dec.23.

He said the voting has ended and the validity of the fourth municipal elections has been confirmed.

Ahmadov added that the New Azerbaijan Party took part in the election process and nominated candidates in all municipalities.

Ahmadov said that the party nominated 16,760 candidates. “The party nominated 13,404 of them, while 3,356 of them are self-nominated candidates.”

He added that around 40 percent of the candidates were representing the New Azerbaijan Party.

“This shows that the party conducted a large-scale activity in the election process,” said the party’s deputy chairman.

He said pre-election campaign was organized in all municipalities which created grounds for success.

“Taking part in the municipal elections, we relied on the success achieved by the New Azerbaijan Party in the country, as well as the people supporting it,” he added.

Ahmadov said that the ruling party has 640,000 members and great human resources.

“The party’s resources create grounds for its success,” Ahmadov said. “The candidates of the New Azerbaijan Party gathered over 60 percent of votes in the previous elections.”

“We have reasons to believe that higher results and more success will be achieved in these elections,” said Ahmadov.

The deputy chairman of the ruling party said that the number of women and the youth in the municipalities increased by several times as a result of the previous elections.

“Women and the youth accounted for 29 percent and 24 percent of the total number of municipality members, respectively. We paid special attention to increasing the number of the youth and women in the municipalities this year as well.”

“This factor was also taken into consideration while selecting candidates. We believe that more women and youth will get mandates in these elections,” said Ahmadov.

The executive secretary added that in general, he highly appreciates the election campaign of the New Azerbaijan Party.

Ahmadov said that the municipal elections can be considered successful since they were held in a stable and calm atmosphere, in accordance with the Electoral Code and no law offences were recorded during the voting process.

He added that no information about any serious law offences in the election process was received.

“I believe that the party’s success in this election campaign will be higher than its achievements five years ago. The New Azerbaijan Party is pleased to have successfully completed another election campaign,” said Ahmadov.
