Reasons behind Armenian Prime Minister’s resignation
There were numerous reasons behind Hovik Abrahamyan’s move to step down as Armenia’s prime minister, a political engineer said today, commenting on Abrahamyan’s somewhat unexpected statement made at the cabinet meeting earlier today, AzVision.az reports citing Tert.am.
Speaking to Tert.am, Armen Badalyan cited the public discontent after the petrol police regiment’s armed seizure and the subsequent developments as a serious factor necessitating changes in the top government circles.

Badalyan said, he doesn’t think the former prime minister had any outstanding achievement during his tenure (which lasted about 2.5 years).

Hesitating to forecast the possible changes in the government, Abrahamyan called attention to another factor which he considered important. “It is an open secret that the European Union, particularly its representatives, are pushing forward to promote the elaboration of the new Electoral Code in Armenia, and to achieve new elections. If the events develop in such a scenario, I do not rule out the possibility of a relaxed Russian influence in the parliamentary elections in Armenia,” he said.
