President Ilham Aliyev receives religious figures of the North Caucasus republics of Russia
President Ilham Aliyev thanked religious figures of the North Caucasus republics of Russia for attending the opening of the Heydar Mosque and described it as a sign of friendship and brotherhood of the nations. Noting that such events contributed to bringing Caucasian Muslims closer to each other and served to peace and stability in the region, the head of state expressed satisfaction with the ongoing development processes in the North Caucasus republics. Describing the opening of the new mosque as an historical event for Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijani people have historically been faithful to their religious and moral values. President Ilham Aliyev stressed a threat existing in the modern period of freedom of religion, saying several circles attempt to separate the youth from their historical roots. President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the role of religious leaders and emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-faith dialogue in terms of preventing this process and bringing up the young generation in the spirit of national traditions. The head of state congratulated the delegation on the forthcoming New Year.

Chairman of the Coordinating Council of Muslims of the North Caucasus, Mufti of Karachay-Cherkessia of the Russian Federation Ismayil Berdiyev thanked for the invitation to attend the opening of the new mosque. He said the mosque was beautifully built and deserved to be named after national leader Heydar Aliyev. Ismayil Berdiyev said the opening of such a grand temple in Azerbaijan became possible thanks to the services of President Ilham Aliyev who continued the wise policy of Heydar Aliyev. Saying that he, in such mosques, prays for peace and stability and does not forget the occupied Karabakh land, Ismayil Berdiyev expressed confidence that this issue would be solved as soon as possible.
