SOCAR creates working group with Greek gov’t
The meeting between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and a delegation led by SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev has come to an end, Ambassador to Greece Rahman Mustafayev said.
According to him, the meeting, which took an hour, was tense but frank.

“Mr Tsipras said Azerbaijan and Greece are two partner countries, and SOCAR is deemed by Athens as a strategic partner,” the diplomat said.

The ambassador added that at the end of the meeting SOCAR made the decision to create a working group for its privatization of DESFA.

“The working group will be led by SOCAR Vice President Elshad Nasirov from the Azerbaijani side and Dmitrios Liakos, the economic adviser to the Greek prime minister. The working group will closely cooperate with Italy’s Snam and European Commission and will look for a way to privatize DESFA within a month. By this means, the term of the letter of guarantee has been extended to October 31,” he said.
