Americans protest against police brutality
Hundreds of American protesters took to the streets in New York City on Monday in the aftermath of police shooting deaths of unarmed black people.

The protesters gathered in the New York City`s busiest train and transit station on holding space to raise awareness about the killings of Eric Garner, Michael Brown and Akai Gurley by white police officers.

"I think now people are just starting to realize this is an issue that`s happening nationally, but I always tell people you have to fight this issue through a local level," one protester told Press TV.

A lawyer said, "I think the beauty of this movement is that it’s not just old radicals like myself who take part, it’s the youth and the diversity of the crowd is amazing."

Most of the demonstrators are from New York`s grassroots communities who called their protests the second wave of the Civil Rights Movement.

Similar protests have been held in other major cities, including Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston and Los Angeles.

The killings of several unarmed black men by white police officers in recent months and decisions by grand juries not to indict some of the officers have triggered large-scale protests across the US.

The unnecessary use of heavy-handed tactics by police as well as the racial profiling of some minorities has become a major concern in recent years.
