The Central Election Commission (CEC) has today taken a decision to terminate the parliamentary mandate of Asaf Hajiyev, AzVision.az reports.
On 9 December 2014, Asaf Hajiyev, being elected secretary general of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation will move to Turkey as the general secretariat is based in Istanbul. Therefore, he appealed to the CEC on January 5 to terminate his parliamentary mandate. According to articles #175 and #176 of the Election Code, the CEC shall consider the termination of parliamentary mandate not later than two days after the relevant application is received. Then the issue was put to vote and adopted.
Academician Asaf Hajiyev was born in 1951. He has been a member of parliament since 1995. He represents the second Nizami constituency #8 and is a member of the Committee on Science and Education. Asaf Hajiyev is head of the International Relations Department of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party.
