“In 2014, the railway transported nearly 21,800,000 tonnes of cargo. Of this, about 5 million tonnes fall to share of domestic freightage. In other words, it was a cheap freightage. If a ton of cargos is transported for AZN 5, the matter is about AZN 25 million. That’s we get AZN 25 million from the railway. When the construction was reviving, the railway transported gravel, stone for free. They’d better not to transport. Because this way pieces of equipments have malfunctioned. In 2015, more than 17 million tonnes were transported, of which 2.3 million tonnes fall to share of domestic market. During eight months of 2016, 15.5 million tonnes were transported”, Gurbanov added.
He also noted: “Previous incorrect tariff policy caused cargo transportation bypassing Azerbaijan. However, we could prevent this process slightly. Freightage has increased. I think we must aim to transport 1.7-1.8 million tonnes of cargo next year. If Caspian Shipping Company is merciful, cargos of China, Ukraine will be transported through Azerbaijan”.
