Azerbaijan intensifying activity within European Energy Charter
Azerbaijan will take appropriate measures for the development of relations within the European Energy Charter, said Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Natig Aliyev, according to the country’s Energy Ministry.
Aliyev held a meeting with Secretary General of the European Energy Charter Urban Rusnak, who arrived in Baku to attend the 7th International Forum “Energy for Sustainable Development.”

The sides discussed the issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Energy Charter.

Rusnak noted that the preparation of a multilateral framework agreement on transit of energy resources is of great importance for the Energy Charter.

The experience, gained in this direction by Azerbaijan as a transit country, can give an important impetus to this process, he said adding that Azerbaijan, thanks to the turning into an energy exporter in a short term and the status acquired by it in the sphere of global energy security, is perceived as an example for other countries by the International Energy Charter.

It is important to sign a new legal document to deepen cooperation with Azerbaijan during the next five years, noted Rusnak.

He went on to add that Azerbaijan’s participation in the 27th conference of the Energy Charter, to be held Nov. 25-26 in Tokyo, is also important.

Natig Aliyev, for his part, noted Azerbaijan’s readiness to share its experience in the sphere of the energy resources’ transit and provide the necessary technical support.
