Azerbaijan and Japan discuss prospects of cooperation in field of sports between two countries
A delegation led by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Republic Azad Rahimov has met with Director General of the Office for the Promotion of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games under Japan`s Cabinet of Ministers, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister for healthcare and sport affairs Takeo Hirata.
Takeo Hirata congratulated for successes gotten by Azerbaijani athletes at Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

"In recent years, much has been done in the field of sports in Azerbaijan, our country has become one of the places where high-level international competitions were organized. The high-level international competitions as the first European Games, the World Chess Olympiad and the "Formula 1" have been held for the last two years. The works being done to strengthen the material-technical base of sport in Azerbaijan. In recent years, numerous new sports arenas, Olympic sports complexes were opened, and many others have been reconstructed. It is no coincidence that, thanks to the care for sport, Azerbaijan won 18 medals at Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games. This is the 15th result among 207 countries participating in the race," said Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov.

Recalling his two years ago visit to Azerbaijan, Takeo Hirata spoke about his meeting with Azad Rahimov and the negotiations held here.

Well-known basketball player Kentaro Asahi who attended the meeting appreciated the care for sport in Azerbaijan. He hailed the prospects of cooperation in the field of sports between Azerbaijan and Japan. Azerbaijani Ambassador to Japan Gursel Ismayilzade and Head of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Madatov also participated at the meeting.
