European Commission wants Caspian gas to be transported to Europe since 2019
Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat hosted discussions on transportation of Caspian gas to Europe.
The meeting was attended by heads of oil and gas corporations of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Turkey, as well as Maroš Šefčovič, Vice President of the European Commission in charge of the Energy Union.

Before the meeting, Šefčovič has met with the Turkmen president Gurbangulu Berdimuhammadov. After the meeting, the vice-president said: “We want Caspian gas to be transported to Europe since 2019-2020. This project will help us to diversify our energy routes and sources”.

According to him, construction of a gas pipeline to Europe on the bottom of the Caspian Sea through Iran has also been discussed at the meeting.
