Georgia to introduce criminal responsibility for participation in armed conflicts abroad
The Georgian parliament is working over the amendments to the Criminal Code as part of the combat against terrorism and the participation of citizens in wars and armed conflicts abroad.
The participation of citizens in armed conflicts in other countries, contrary to the interests of Georgia, will be punished by law, Georgian Minister of Justice Tea Tsulukiani said in an interview with Imedi TV company.

She said that the Georgian parliament is working over the relevant amendments to the Criminal Code.

"The bill was prepared by the Georgian Interior Ministry,” the minister said. “The government has already submitted it to the parliament on December 18, 2014."

Tsulukiani said that an article will be added to the Criminal Code. The Georgian citizens will be sentenced in case of their participation in armed conflicts and wars abroad.

While speaking about the Georgian citizens involved in an armed conflict in Ukraine, the minister said that the new article of the Criminal Code would apply to these individuals if they become members of illegal armed groups.
