It was previously reported that during the monitoring held on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian armies, Armenian armed forces opened fire at Azerbaijani positions and OSCE representatives there, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on Jan.14.
Armenian armed forces again resorted to provocations during the OSCE monitoring that was held on the contract line of Azerbaijani and Armenian armies near the village of Horadiz in the Fizuli district.
Azerbaijani armed forces didn’t open fire and corresponding conditions were created to complete the monitoring in accordance with the rules for holding monitoring, said Yevgeny Sharov, the field assistant of OSCE chairperson-in-office personal representative.
He was participating in this monitoring from the Azerbaijani side.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the UN Security Council`s four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
