Iran suspends sending athletes to Turkey amid security concerns

Iran suspends sending athletes to Turkey amid security concerns

Iranian Ministry of Sport and Youth has suspended sending athletes and sports teams to Turkey for security reasons.

According to Iranian embassy in Ankara, the ministry has temporary barred all Iranian sports federations from sending athletes to the neighboring country, IRNA news agency reported.

According to the report, the Iranian consulate offices in Turkey have also stopped giving consular services.

The decisions came in the aftermath of the assassination of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov on Dec. 19.
