Ali Hasanov: They should not teach Azerbaijan democracy
"No matter what some external circles say about it, the NGO sector in Azerbaijan is probably the world
Ali Hasanov, Head of Political and Public Affairs Department at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, has stated this in his speech at the conference dedicated to the annual report of the Council for State Support to NGOs under the President.

According to Ali Hasanov, no one can claim that Azerbaijan has deprived someone of any grant on the area they requested for because of their political view, attitude toward the government or position in society.

“The council members have assessed the appeal of each organization and then given them grants. But look at the grants given by those “some” circles and states that try to teach us what we have to do regarding to the activities of civic society institutions. For many years, those grants have been given to particular individuals who are manipulated by the same organizations in the same directions for specific areas and against the Azerbaijani state and its interests when needed. I wouldn’t like to go that far, but look at the NGOs representing Azerbaijan at the hearings held by the US National Endowment for Democracy. They have come together with Nagorno Karabakh-based NGOs which have violated the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan for years, causing a serious problem for our national statehood. They analyzed the situation in Azerbaijan without raising any objections and stating their position. There are some political parties and media outlets here that support them. Let them support. It’s their business. But they should not tell Azerbaijan what it has to do and try to teach us democracy. They should not try to forcefully impose their own views and postulate about the activities of the 3rd sector in Azerbaijan,” he noted.

Ali Hasanov noted that they are forming a policy from a single center against Azerbaijan’s national interests, not the government: “I reiterate that they are forming a policy from a single center against Azerbaijan’s national interests, not the government. Sitting with persons and NGO members representing the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic to analyze the situation in Azerbaijan without raising any objections or stating their opinion means they are no different from them. Such people need public condemnation,” he PA official added.
