`Foreign donors must respect Azerbaijani laws and comply with them`
"We do not fall behind any western country with regards to media, transparency, democracy and the protection of human rights"
“Law has to be complied with everywhere, and everything has to rely on law. If laws are bad, they can be put up for discussion and changed. But it cannot be the reason for anyone not to comply with law. If there is law, it has to be fulfilled”.

Ali Hasanov, Head of Political and Public Affairs Department at the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, has stated this in his speech at the conference dedicated to the annual report of the Council for State Support to NGOs under the President, APA reports.

A. Hasanov said NGOs, state authorities, foreign agencies operating in the country, media outlets and foreign donors must respect our country’s laws and comply with them: “Otherwise, law enforcers will make them obey the law”.

The head of the Presidential Administration said that the Azerbaijani state has held some campaigns across the country. “In general, the Azerbaijani government is satisfied with the activity in this field. We don’t lag behind any western countries not only in this field but in media, transparency, democracy and protection of human rights. The situation in any other country isn’t better than in our state. Of course, we do not claim that the Azerbaijani society is a perfect one, and we do not claim that Azerbaijan has no problems and the Azerbaijani society is guaranteed against any problems. No country can make such a claim".

A. Hasanov noted that the Azerbaijani government has set the goal of building a developed society and is successfully fulfilling all duties to reach its objective: “If everything were perfect, then the government and state authorities would not be needed. In this regard, our achievements outnumber our problems. Democratic progress, human rights, freedom of speech and media, and civic society building in Azerbaijan are not as bad as depicted by those anti-Azerbaijan circles. Quite the contrary, the situation in Azerbaijan is much better than in the majority of those countries.
