New interior minister appointed in Georgia
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili introduced Vakhtang Gomelauri to the post of Interior Minister Jan. 24. Until now Gomelauri has been the First Deputy Interior Minister.
Gomelauri will replace Alexander Chikaidze who resigned earlier. He decided to resign after the murder of human rights activist Yuri Vazagashvili, who died in an explosion at his son’s gravesite, was not solved.

Gomelauri stressed that he would make every effort to justify the expectations of people.
