US diplomat: OSCE interested in Armenia-Azerbaijan dialogue
The OSCE Minsk Group members are interested in the Armenia-Azerbaijan dialogue, US Charge D`Affaires in Armenia Clark Price said.
He was commenting on the recent aggravation of the situation on the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian armed forces, News Armenia reported Jan. 27.

Price said that the co-chairmen are interested in the sides’ using any opportunity to find ways to de-escalate the situation.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with French co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group Pierre Andrieu Jan.23.

They agreed to hold a meeting between Azerbaijani foreign minister and OSCE MG co-chairs in Krakow, Poland on Jan.27.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
