Iran expects to sign agreement with EAU in 2015
Iran expects to sign a contract or a memorandum of understanding with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) in 2015 and intends to use this opportunity for its exports to Russia, Iran`s ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanai said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"I think that in 2015 we must work on it for Iran to have certain economic contacts with the EAU,” he said. “We are working on it now. Iran intends to use this opportunity for its exports to Russia and other countries. Perhaps, it is necessary to sign a contract or a memorandum of understanding."

He said that Iran and Russia face the problem of high customs duties for Iranian goods.

"There is another problem with the high customs tariffs for Iranian goods exported to Russia,” he said. “Iran sends its goods to Russia directly, rather than through other republics having tariff preferences. These rates are high for Iran. Iranian businessmen often ask us to contribute to the reduction of tariffs. They cite Russia`s relations with Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan as an example."

The agreement on EAU establishment was signed by Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan in Astana on May 29. The document entered into force on January 1, 2015. Armenia signed an agreement on October 10, 2014. The parliaments of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan have already ratified the treaty of Armenia’s accession to the EAU.
